This booklet follows and recounts the transformation processes, events, nature and people that have transited the Nursery.1306 plants for Timișoara, from its erection in February to its dismantling in November 2023, throughout the 4 seasons it has crossed. The Nursery was a temporary installation in Victory Square – Timișoara, Romania, designed by MAIO Architects Barcelona and realized in partnership with Studio Peisaj, Nomadic Studio and OAR Timiș, for the event ‘Timișoara European Capital of Culture 2023’. The concept evolved around 4 pillars: Horticultural heritage Access to food (Bio)cultural diversity The climatic function of nature The project was a manifesto towards public space. By subsequently offering the 1306 plants to the city of Timișoara, the construction aimed to be understood as a general reflection on public policies regarding urban public space and, in particular, its management, in this case through vegetation. The tower stimulated an urban and political debate, while adding a new dimension to the way the market is perceived. Bringing a public nursery to the city center has stimulated the imagination of a more friendly and sustainable public space – from drainage and permeability to how it allows ecosystems to coexist.
